Open source

Free to run.
Free to fork.

AgentTask is open source and the product is free. Run it, read it, fork it and build your own thing on top. We only earn on the building blocks you choose to plug in.

The repository opens with the first public release.
Why open source

The tool you build with should be yours.

Your backlog, your machines, your agents. Hiding the code that ties them together would be strange.

The product is free

Issues, projects, fleet, queue, release trains, terminals and insight. All of it, for anyone.

Run it or fork it

Anyone can run AgentTask or fork it and build on it. Change the parts you disagree with. Keep the parts you like.

We earn on what you plug in

Paid building blocks are optional pieces you add when you need them. The core stays free. See building blocks →

The repository

One repo. Everything in it.

The core, the client, the daemon, the relay and the specs they were built from live side by side. One pull request can change all of them.

agenttask/

app/

The core. Organisations, issues, the mutation bus, sync endpoints, the queue, trains, integrations, the REST API and the MCP server.

Laravel 13 · PHP 8.4 · MySQL · Horizon · Reverb
client/

The app you use. Local-first, installable, with terminals and a rich editor. Every view reads from IndexedDB.

Svelte 5 · TypeScript · Vite 8 · Tailwind 4
daemon/

One binary per machine. Pairs with one command, runs agents in tmux, verifies its own signed updates.

Go 1.27 · macOS · Linux · WSL
relay/

Carries terminal bytes over websockets between browsers and daemons. Knows sessions, never issues.

Go 1.27 · coder/websocket
docs/

The specs every feature was built from, the wire protocol, live probes of third-party tools and the brand.

Principles

Six rules every contributor follows.

They are why the product is fast and hard to break. Bend one and the pull request goes back.

The org boundary lives in the database

Composite foreign keys keep every row inside its organisation. Not a convention in code, a constraint in the schema.

One mutation path

Every change goes through one mutation bus and writes one sequenced event. People, agents, the API and imports all take the same road.

The server is the clock

Order and time come from the core. Clients and daemons never decide on their own that something happened or should start.

No agent credentials stored

Agent logins stay on the machines that run them. The core never holds a Claude, Codex or Grok login.

English first, then translations

Strings live behind keys, written in English first and translated from there.

Light and dark, always

Every screen works in both themes, built on tokens. No raw colours in a component.

Built in the open

AgentTask is built with AgentTask.

Agents on our own machines wrote most of it, release trains shipped it, and the team now plans its work inside it.

9Release trains shipped to main
180Agent PRs merged by trains
235PRs merged in total

Measured on the AgentTask repository, October 2026. Every train is in the changelog.
